hot cocoa bombs

Hot cocoa bombs are one of my absolute favorite things to gift family and friends during holiday season! They look pretty, are easy to make, and you really can’t go wrong with hot chocolate!

How to make hot cocoa bombs?

For basic hot cocoa bombs all you need is good quality chocolate, marshmallows, and cocoa powder. 12 oz of chocolate will make 6 bombs.

First bring 1” of water to boil in a small pot. Lower the heat to low, place a small bowl over it and melt 6 oz of chocolate. Then add 6 oz more and when almost all the chocolate has melted remove from heat and wait until the chocolate is completely smooth, stirring a few times. Then place about 1 1/2-2 tbsp of melted chocolate into each mold and make sure to create an even layer. Pop in the refrigerator for 25 minutes.

Once hardened, remove the shells from the mold and fill half of them with 2 tbsp of cocoa powder and marshmallows. Then place a small plate over the simmering water, once the plate is warm put an empty shell on top of it for 5 seconds to slightly melt the edges, and then line it on top of a filled half. Refrigerate for a few minutes to harden.

To make the decorative drizzle on top, melt a little bit of white chocolate in a small bowl over the simmering water. Once smooth set aside to cool. When the chocolate isn’t hot anymore, place it in a piping bag and cut a small hole at the tip. Drizzle the hot cocoa bombs and pop them back in the refrigerator for a minute or two to harden.

For gifting hot cocoa bombs place each bomb in a cupcake liner and individually bag or use cupcake boxes for multiple bombs! I like to finish the packaging with a little instruction sticker how to make this treat!
